Philip M Keating Fund for the Future.
"Phil's Fund" is a donor-advised charitable fund of the Arlington Community Foundation. The Fund will make grants to various organizations to which Phil volunteered his efforts, time, and talents.

On May 28, 2013 a group of four fit and ambitious friends of Phil, led by his good friend, Luis Gendive, soccer coach and native of Spain, will leave Yorktown, Virginia and pedal around 3,500 miles to San Francisco, California. Tentative plans are for some members of Phil's family to ride the first leg of the trip. If your not able to join the team on your bike, you can support them with a financial donation!

Day 35 complete

After climbing Carson Pass, the map said it was mostly all down hill, but it wasnt. We encounter a few small hills and some with steep grades. At the end of the day, we accomplish 106 miles. It was hot and the sun was beating down. It reached the near 100s. We made it to placerville, but there was no power due to the wild fires going on around the south west, especially in Arizona, and Nevada. Its suppose to get worse here with highs in the 110s. We drove to Folsom, were there was power, and then went for a nice dinner, thanks to Mark and the Hooban Family. We are 110 miles from San Francisco, and we should be there by July 3rd. Tomorrow we will have a light day!

Day 35!

After a nice rest day at the beach, we start the day early back in Genoa, Nevada, to get a good warm up for thr climb to Carson Pass. It was about 40 miles to the sumit. It took about 4 hours to reach the sumit, it was well worth it, because it was the last big climb in the Rockies, and then just a nice down hill to san fran. We are getting close to our goal!

Day 34, rest day!

Today we took the day off from biking. We thank again the Hooban family and friends for the stay at the lake house in lake tahoe. We enjoyed the day relaxing on the beach, watching soccer games, eating great home cooked food, taking naps, and the company was great. We had a great time and it was a great treat. Tomorrow we start back in Genoa and ride towards Placerville.

Day 33

We had a late start, we were riding to Carson City, which was only 70 miles away. We took our time getting up, have a good breakfast and took our times leaving. We left after 10, but it was hot, very hot, already felt like it was in the 100s. The high it got in the afternoon, reached 105. Also the wind started to get worse, the wind gust picked up and reached 20 mph. We thank Mike Hooban for the hotel room.

Day 32 complete

After a sunny, hot day going through Nevada, the weather people were saying that it was going to be record temperatures, it hit 103 yesterday, it felt like 110. We starts really early, at 7 and finished 114 miles. We finished at 230. If we didn't stop, we did it in 6 and a half hours. It's our fastest we ever done and also the most we have ever done. The road smooth for the most part, but had hills every 8 to 10 miles. We thank Mike Hooban for the hotel room, he also meet up with us at the end and rode to the hotel room. Tomorrow we ride to Lake Tahoe!

Day 30 complete

After a hot sunny day in the start of Utah, we accomplished to cover 83 miles. There were a lot of hills and climbing them were tough. Also there were no towns close by, if we go to one town, the next on was in another 100 miles, it was hard. After we finished biking, we put the bikes on the back of the car and drove to torrey and we are spending the night here!

Day 30

A hot, sunny day in Utah, the weather was going to be sunny with a high of 95, but it felt like it was 100. There was alot of small hills to climb, some were major. We covered 52 miles in the morning till lunch. It was hard to find a place to stop and relax. The town's were spread apart, in 100 mile radius. So we just stopped, good thing we had a canopy and tarp, and made our own shade and relaxed.
